Amanda Raquel Worr

Amanda Raquel is a multi disciplinary visual artist, intersectional 1st generation mixed Filipino person.  Mother to three children and six chickens, they currently are at home in the city of Guelph.  In the backyard studio art, healing, joy and ceramics are often made.  

Kapwa: We are a part of other people, communities, the environment around us and world; as well they are a part of us.  The shared understanding based on Philippine Folk Psychology that we are not separate from nature, we are one with it. 

Over the last year, I have had the privilege of exploring my Filipino heritage through the medium of clay sculpture. The intentional slow and meditative process of hand building is how I passionately craft figures and objects with fluidity and vibrancy.   

With a focus on folk culture and the harmony of nature and spirituality the sculptures are an invitation to touch and immerse in the tactile experience of art created from the earth.   Beings brought into physical form from imaginative and whimsical sources play in the intersection of humanity and nature from a spiritual perspective, with the ancestral knowledge of the inherent personhood within nature.
